Texas Family Line Expecting First Daughter in 108 Years

Michael Sherman Jr. was brought to tears during his gender reveal on Sunday.
He and his wife Joacquia Sherman made family history, breaking a streak that lasted more than a century. For the first time in 108 years in this Texas family tree, a daughter will be born.
“I just feel honored that, finally, we are the ones bringing the baby girl into the world. Finally, after over a hundred years. It’s amazing,” Michael Sherman Jr. said in a News4Jax report. He and his wife also have a 5-year-old son.
Sherman’s great-great aunt Orah Belle Sherman was the last girl to bear the family name. She was born in 1917 and became a Civil Rights trailblazer in Atlanta, according to the family.
For generations, only sons have been born into the Montgomery County Texas firefighter’s family.
Great-grandmother Lydia Robertson said she has been waiting for Sherman’s baby girl for more than 50 years.
Generations, Sherman sons and other relatives surrounded the family as they celebrated a special daughter, ready to welcome the new addition with love.
The baby is due in March 2026.
