National Cinema Day is a new nationwide discount day perfect for families to celebrate a long weekend like Labor Day.

On Sept. 3, thousands of movie theaters will offer tickets are no more than $3 for the day. At least 3,000 theaters are expected to participate; Honk for Jesus. Save Your Soul. is a standout movie release this weekend.

National Cinema Day is an initiative from The Cinema Foundation to lure moviegoers to the box office during one of the slowest weekend for theaters. Major chains such as AMC and Regal Cinemas are on board.

The $3 tickets will be for every showing and in every format.

This large-scale trial event could be a yearly happening.

“After this summer’s record-breaking return to cinemas, we wanted to do something to celebrate movie-going,” Jackie Brennenman, The Cinema Foundation president, said in a statement. “We’re doing it by offering a ‘thank you’ to the moviegoers that made this summer happen, and by offering an extra enticement for those who haven’t made it back yet.”
