Audience of all ages were fascinated with this weekend’s world premiere of Atlanta Ballet 2’s Swan Princess, making it a great choice for children.

Atlanta Ballet 2 is Atlanta Ballet’s training ensemble.

A kid-friendly rendition of the classic Swan Lake, the one-hour show captured spectators with its dazzling production and element of mystery.

Sunday wrapped the first run of Swan Princess, which opened at Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center in Atlanta. It will return to Sandy Springs Performing Arts Center at City Springs from April 10 to 12.

The love story of Princess Odette and Prince Siegfried was captured through stunning dance. They were up against Count Von Rothbart, whose magnificent black cape was just as captivating as wicked. The object was a strong visual for a figure who turned Odette into a swan princess with an evil spell.

The ballet was easy to follow, even for younger viewers, thanks in part to the friendly narration at key moments. It’s suited for children under 12.

The venue was easy to navigate, from parking, ticket information and seating. It was a also treasure to see walk in with other bustling families dressed up for the show.

The ballet ran about an hour with a 20-minute intermission, a perfect setup for families with toddlers. The first seemed lengthy, so the intermission came just in time for a much-needed leg stretch. The dancers returned to the stage for an action-packed second half that left viewers anticipating the fate of the prince and princess.

If you missed this first weekend, the April show is a great opportunity to introduce the littles in your life to ballet.
