I Didn’t Prepare Myself to Drop My Daughter off at College, Now I Help Others Continue Parenting from an Almost Empty Nest
Reading Time: 2 minutes

“What in the world did we just do?”

I uttered these words, my heart pounding, as I rose from my prayer closet floor. It was the year 2016, a time of immense change and uncertainty. My husband and I had just returned from Virginia Tech, where we had dropped off our oldest daughter to begin her engineering journey. Standing there, trying to quell the rapid beats of my heart, I realized that while I had supported her transition, I hadn’t quite prepared for my own. Thus began a personal quest of rediscovery that led me to a purpose larger than myself.

As a mother, the prospect of my daughter stepping onto a campus full of strangers ignited a storm of emotions within me.

As a mother, the prospect of my daughter stepping onto a campus full of strangers ignited a storm of emotions within me. The realization dawned that I hadn’t planned for this phase of my life. Questions raced through my mind, “Who am I now?” and “How can I continue parenting from a distance?” I knew I wasn’t alone in these feelings, and this realization birthed the genesis of my journey – both personal and professional.

I am Dr. Michelle Lloyd, and I stand before you today as a Transition Success Coach, proudly associated with Lloyd Learning Labs in Sugar Land, Texas.

Dr.

Our mission is clear: to provide unwavering support to parents grappling with the anxiety and uncertainty that accompany their teens’ transition from the family nest to broader horizons.

The tale of my journey from that moment of insecurity to where I stand today is a story of transformation and empowerment. Recognizing the need for guidance and assistance, I embarked on a path of self-discovery and learning. My experiences laid the foundation for Lloyd Learning Labs, where we provide holistic support for parents navigating these tumultuous waters.

At Lloyd Learning Labs, we understand the sleepless nights, the unanswered questions, and the overwhelming emotions that accompany this pivotal phase. We stand as a beacon of hope for parents who, like me, found themselves at a crossroads. Our specialized programs extend a helping hand to parents whose teens are headed to college campuses, military bases, or residential interdependence.

Our signature program, the “Ultimate Transition Success Program,” offers an additional 6-months of support. This customized curriculum focuses on the Triple Threat (R)reveal I (R)elate I (R)revive Methodology, designed to help parents release with a higher level of competence and confidence on transition day. This unique approach equips parents with tools to handle the emotional and practical aspects of their teens’ departure.

In conclusion, my journey from that anxious moment in 2016 to today has been one of self-discovery, growth, and service. I invite you to embark on this transformative journey with us at Lloyd Learning Labs. Together, we can navigate the uncharted waters of parenting through transitions, emerging not only stronger but also more connected with our children.

So, if you find yourself standing on that threshold of change, whispering, “What in the world did we just do?” – know that you are not alone. We are here to guide you, empower you, and help you embrace this new chapter of life with confidence and grace.
