Soccer star Sydney Leroux returns to the game as new mom
Sydney Leroux made a promise to herself.
No matter how hard it would be, the Orlando Pride forward promised herself she’d return to soccer.
Three months and a day after her newborn daughter Roux was born, Leroux did just that.
The soccer star on Sunday played in her first match in about a year. The few minutes on the pitch in the Pride’s 1-1 draw with Sky Blue FC in New Jersey were special for Leroux, who revealed she had a miscarriage last year.
The Olympic gold medalist got emotional after the match as she held her three-month-old daughter, who accompanied the team during the flight to match, according to prosoccerusa.com.
“I love this game,” Leroux wrote on Instagram beneath a photo of her holding her baby and being embraced by teammate Alanna Kennedy. “This past year was filled with so many ups and downs, but I made a promise to myself that I would come back. No matter how hard that would be.
“It’s been a long road, but I did it.”
The Pride have two regular-season games left.
