For the past six months, Sade’s transgender son had been recovering from sex reassignment surgery.

Izaak Theo Adu, 23, posted a heartfelt thank you note on Instagram last week expressing gratitude for his mom for her support.

“Thank you for fighting with me to complete the man I am,” Adu wrote. “Thank you for your encouragement when things are hard, for the love you give me. The purest heart. I love you so much. Queen of queens.”

Adu came out as trans in 2016.

Parental acceptance of gender identity and sexual orientation plays an integral role in the wellbeing of LGBTQ individuals, according to studies by the Human Rights Campaign.
